The Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation provided me with a studentship to study financial journalism at City University, which was of huge assistance at the start of my career. I moved to London to start the course after studying Economics at Trinity College Dublin and it gave me a solid grounding in both journalism and finance. But, as always, experience through placements and internships is crucial to learning the trade; City University and Professor Schifferes helped me with this too.

I joined the Financial Times as a trainee production journalist in 2010 and it has been just fantastic to work for such a high-quality paper and somewhere where I always have wanted to work. Apart from writing headlines, designing pages and polishing articles, I’ve also done some reporting and a stint making interactive graphics for the website. I am certain that I would not have gotten to where I am now without the support of the foundation and I am very grateful for it.
