A studentship from the Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation allowed me to study for an MPhil in Economics at the University of Cambridge. It is no exaggeration to say that this opportunity changed the course of my life.  After graduating from Cambridge, I spent a year in Tokyo where I completed an MA in Global Studies at Sophia University (which I was able to complete in one year, not two, by transferring credits from my MPhil). After that I worked as an economist at the Bank of England,  first in the international economics division and then the monetary strategy division.

In Autumn 2012 I took over the role of editor of the Bank’s Quarterly Bulletin publication. The foundation’s award helped me to get this role and I am delighted to have found a way to work in the media and communications side of economic policy. I will always remain thankful to Marjorie and the foundation.
