Journalists have to work against the clock to deliver precise and useful information to readers. This may sound like a cliché, but it is the challenge faced by all reporters the day they step into this industry.

As a Marjorie Deane scholar, I have been given the privilege to take a break and delve into the topics that I am truly interested in. With the foundation’s financial support I was able to dedicate myself fully to my MA studies in business and financial journalism at City University London.

But more than that, this studentship gave me inspiration and motivation. Being part of the alumni of such a prestigious foundation grants any young journalist (as it has granted me) the incentive to continue learning and developing professionally.

I owe this opportunity to Marjorie Deane.
