  • Internship: The Economist, 2017

The Marjorie Deane programme, I can say without exaggeration, is the single best opportunity for aspiring business and financial journalists. During my internship in the New York bureau of The Economist, I wrote about topics as diverse as long-dated government debt and Donald Trump’s border wall. I interviewed the chief executive of a Fortune 500 company, attended press conferences in Manhattan and made reporting trips to rural America. In my new role as Beijing correspondent, I still reflect on the valuable lessons I learned while on the programme.
