Mervyn King meets students at annual reception in New York

In mid-January 2016 the Marjorie Deane Foundation hosted a dinner in New York, attended by Mervyn King, former governor of the Bank of England. Some fifty guests mingled at New York University’s Torch Club, who included current students and alumni from NYU’s Business and Economic Reporting Program, along with other professional journalists.

The evening started with a 30-minute private meeting between Lord King and students. Lord King offered some observations about financial journalism and the critical importance of accuracy and context. This was followed by a reception and a lively public discussion, moderated by Stephen Solomon, Marjorie Deane Professor of Financial Journalism at NYU. The conversation focused largely on the financial crisis and the adequacy of measures taken over the last few years to deal with future troubles. Photographs from the event follow below.
