In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, another cohort has just begun the academic year on the MA in financial journalism at City, University of London. The Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation financially supports a professorship, several scholarships and a summer school that takes place annually in New York and Shanghai in aid of the course.
Luke Harrison, on this year’s course, writes:
“The opening-week talk given by Anne Foley and Michael Cronk about the Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation highlighted the exceptional financial journalist and person Marjorie Deane was; her integrity allowed her to always be trusted, meaning she was able to get the crux of any story. It is clear that Marjorie Deane’s generosity in setting up the foundation has paved the way for budding, future financial journalists to follow in her footsteps. As Zanny Minton Beddoes explained in her welcome video, financial journalism: ‘is one of the most important forms of journalism we can have right now’.”

Congratulations to Mr. Luke to this opportunity and to Marjorie Deane Foundation to make it possible! I am journalist and appreciate the work of MDF in shaping the financial journalism landscape by providing training and scholarships to young journalists. Good training provided by experimented journalists is necessary for the quality of journalism. Guess the MA in financial journalism at City University is a sound example. Most of the brilliant young journalists who are reporting in finance and business are made in City.
