New mentoring scheme launched for MA Financial Journalism students at City University of London

Financial journalism graduates from City, University of London are receiving advice and support under a new mentoring scheme.

The scheme puts graduates in touch with MA Financial Journalism alumni employed at a range of top international news organisation including the Financial Times, Reuters, CNN, Sky and the BBC.

Both mentees and mentors report holding useful initial meetings in the first few months of the scheme. Advice provided so far has covered freelancing, managing workload, work/life balance, career opportunities, finding stories and job applications.

Paul Solman, lead lecturer on the MA Financial Journalism programme, said: “While the MA Financial Journalism at City provides essential training, mentoring can also make a significant difference to an early-career journalist’s employment prospects and skills development. We’re delighted to be able to offer mentoring to our students.”
